Sunday 19 July 2020

We are back meeting on Sunday mornings at the Community Centre in Donabate. This week it’s an all-age service. Next week there’ll be a short service at 10am with some songs and a Bible talk, followed at 11am by an all-age friendly service.

Without a full Bible talk at Church this week, Andy has recorded one. It’s the latest in the fruit of the Spirit: Kindness.

‘Be Kind’ is not just a slogan but a way of life.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

My Faith during Lock Down

by Tom Davison

Contentment …

I am a fortunate and blessed man. I have really benefitted from the slower pace of life put upon each of us during lockdown. I haven’t been able to give any Maths tutorials since March 23rd – so my calculator and Tables Book have been put away til September. Hopefully, I won’t have forgotten how to do “my sums” by then! But as a self-employed person, I have been eligible for the weekly COVID-payment. Heather has continued to work and so all our needs have been met.

Ben, Emma, and Heather were all working from home until recent weeks, when each of their respective academic years ended. We were blessed to have enough space in our home for each of them to have a workstation and not right on top of each other. Plus, the internet connection behaved itself, most of the time!

It was great to have each other’s company over mealtimes, local walks, and movie nights. Additionally, I was very pleased to look after the home and be the “hunter/gatherer” making the weekly perilous trip around Dunnes! It provided me with the additional social interaction this extrovert needs … a chance to chat (& listen) to “random-ers”!!

The dry, sunny weather has been magnificent. Early mornings have been a particular treat – sitting in our back garden listening to the birdsong, sun on my face, reading my Bible and chatting to God. What a blessing!

By temperament I am always “on the go” ~ whether physically or allowing my mind to be consumed with far too many thoughts and matters to ponder. I’m not very good at resting. So, what a joy it has been for me to be reminded by our Father, “Be still, and know that I am God. Further He declares in Isaiah 55:8, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.”

So, whilst this period has been exceedingly difficult for many people right across the world, I don’t deny that – yet I have peace in the core of my being that God can be trusted. He knows what He is doing. Therefore, as I go about each day – whether cooking, running, gardening, queueing for groceries, I am content and grateful. God is with me.

He promises us in Jeremiah 29:13,

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Church Sunday 31 May 2020

We didn’t have Church @ Home this week as Andy was on leave. Below is Josh’s Bible Talk From Matthew 14. Below that is the The Irish Blessing we listened to, a collective of 300 churches in Ireland joining together to sing the wonderful song, Be Thou My Vision.

Matthew 14:22-36 We don't need an unsinkable faith, we need an unsinkable Saviour

My Faith during Lock Down

by Jenny Leahy

One of the stand out moments for me during lock down was Easter Sunday.  A day when Christians all over the world celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.  I remember waking up on Easter Sunday with a real sense of sadness.  I was sitting on my bed looking out the window at the green and thinking about the enormity of this pandemic and the scale of the destruction it was causing.  Imagine something attacking the entire human race and literally stopping worldwide Easter celebrations … frightening!

A few days later during one of my many ‘lock down walks’ in Newbridge Park, I looked around in wonder at all that nature was achieving despite this pandemic.  I had a real sense of God’s promise and love for us and a deep sense of peace that God was with us and bigger than this virus and that there was no need to feel fear.  While people the world over were locked in their homes and daily life had come to a standstill nature was still thriving. One of the good news stories during this lockdown was the wonder and joy that people all over the world were experiencing in relation to nature.  I kept thinking of Genesis 9, 16:

“When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.”

Not being able to worship on Sunday mornings together as a Church family has been really tough.  I am so thankful to Andy, Josh, Kathryn and Scott for the amazing work they have done to bring worship into our homes.  Mum’s In Prayer has also been a huge blessing to me during these last few weeks.  We pray every Tuesday for our children and their teachers and schools. Despite the fact that schools have been closed we have continued to pray via zoom and have had so many answers to prayer for our children.

I think in times of uncertainty when we feel under attack and helpless it is amazing to remember how powerful and unchanging God’s love for us is.

“There is no one like the God of Israel. He rides across the heavens to help you, across the skies in majestic splendour.”  Deuteronomy 33, 26

Welcome

Good morning everyone, we hope you’re doing well. Thank you so much for joining us.

In Ezekiel 34:14, God says to His people:  I will feed them in a good pasture, and their grazing ground will be on the mountain heights of Israel. There they will lie down on good grazing ground and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.

Many times in the Bible, God gives food to the people. It’s a symbol of the eternal feeding that He offers us. I pray as you make your way through the service, you encounter the power of God’s Spirit filling and satisfying you.
