Our Story
Donabate Presbyterian Church is a Christian community in the making. At the beginning of the 21st century we believe as much as ever that the message of Christianity is life-changing. We’re convinced Jesus offers hope for you no matter what your social, religious or racial background and no matter how good or bad you think you are. Because we have seen and experienced how good it is to know and understand God’s love, forgiveness from sin and acceptance we want as many as possible to experience it too. That’s why we think new Christian communities are important.
We meet weekly at Donabate/Portrane Community Centre (Sundays @ 10.30am) and in small gatherings in homes. See ‘Get Involved’ for more details!
So, why Donabate? The story begins in Malahide. The church family at the Presbyterian Church in Malahide has grown significantly in the past few years, so much so that it can be difficult to get a seat on a Sunday. Rather than re-building, the people there have felt God calling them to start a new church in a location where members of the church family live but there is no Presbyterian Church. Donabate is one such area and the church family decided that it is where the new church community should be based.
With the help, support and vision of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, Andy Carroll, an ordained minister, was appointed to work alongside Malahide Presbyterian Church and the wider church to develop this new Christian community in Donabate. He is from Glasnevin and studied at Trinity College Dublin before moving to Belfast to study theology and train to be a minister. He and his wife, Victoria, moved to Donabate in mid January, 2010 and live in Beverton Grove.
Donabate Presbyterian Church is not just for Presbyterians – it’s for anyone who wants to learn more about being or becoming a Christian.
